I was hired as a percussionist to play with Doug Hream Blunt and, after hearing his beautiful story, decided to document the tour and tell his story. Doug was a 35 year-old nurse who used an adult music education course to record an album in the mid-80s that became quite popular 30 years later. After having a stroke, David Byrne’s label, Luaka Bop, found Doug and partnered with music schools across the world to play his first shows ever outside of Laguna Honda hospital, where he played exclusively for his AIDS ward patients in the mid 80s. Winner of Best Music Documentary at the SF Frozen Film Festival.
